GREAT FALLS – The Great Falls Rescue Mission thrift store will close permanently on December 15, 2021.
After a few years of the financial burden the thrift store placed on the Great Falls Rescue Mission, the board decided it was time to shut it down.
“We’ve done everything we can to make it work, but rent prices are going up, heating prices are going up and most importantly is the garbage,” said Jim McCormick, director of the rescue mission.
He explained, “We originally started out as a training ground for those who follow our programs, as a way to get them out and get around.”
The mission employed several of the residents on the rescue missions, with a few remaining.
The store manager said working in a thrift store had changed his life and he was heartbroken to see it disappear.
McCormick noted: “We loved the store, we worked with the store and we did everything we could to stay open, but it doesn’t seem possible anymore – unless someone has a 1,500 square building. that he would like to donate to us, so we could keep a thrift store running.
The rescue mission still plans to have a donation building where people can donate and receive clothing, but the opening date and location have yet to be determined.
The thrift store is located at 1210 9th Street South. For more information, call 406-866-0150, or Click here for the website.
