| While looking to buy a new home in my county today, I was informed by a real estate "professional" that I could not purchase in the particular subdivision they were representing -- not because I cannot afford the home, not because of who I am -- but because of my two Rottweilers!! I am lucky enough to live in a county that does not participate in any breed specific legislation but that does not stop builders from including what type of dogs you can have if you give them your hard-earned money. This infuriates me! I am a law abiding citizen who chooses to have Rottweilers, but due to that fact I cannot buy a house? This is not right by any stretch of the word!! Most people would just take their dog into a shelter and drop them off, but I can't and I won't do that! I want to put the word out to all of you out there that have experienced the same discrimination that I did today that it is not right and we, as law abiding citizens, do not have to stand for it. Not only am I a law abiding citizen that owns Rottweilers, but I am also an Animal Control Officer. If your county does not have breed specific legislation, the only people that can enforce these ridiculous self made rules is the board of directors for the specific subdivision. So if anyone is in the market for a new home first tell your agent you own a Rottweiler and you want a Rottweiler friendly neighborhood, and second do not empower these builders that make their own rules and regulations that govern dog ownership by turning your loved Rottweiler into a shelter. |
